Villages in India to get WiFi Connectivity soon - BSNL

In India now even villages are going to have internet connectivity, said by Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting-Manish Tiwari. In Ludhiana district around thousand districts will soon get WiFi connectivity under the BSNL’s (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) national optic fiber network program.

On Sunday the declaration was made by Mr. Manish Tiwari that the program of providing WiFi connectivity is a countrywide plan and under this program more than 2 Lakhs Gram panchayats would be provided with WiFi connectivity. Ludhiana is the first district to get the benefit.
The program was offered to most of the Telecom operators but they denied stating that “setting up WiFi connectivity is not going to generate revenue.” The minister, who is a local MP, expressed his gratitude to the government of India for granting his request to include Ludhiana district in the first phase. He said the project would provide immediate and fast Internet connectivity to the people living in villages.
Since the private operators were not prepared to provide the Internet services in villages as it did not generate them much revenue, the government of India stepped in to provide this facility to the people there.
Tewari said it was one of his priorities to ensure that the gram panchayats were connected through the Internet with the rest of the world. Besides, he added, it would be beneficial for the people whose relatives live abroad.
Well of course to setup internet in more than 2 lakhs panchayat is not an easy task, but it will take time and with surety it will be soon available in every villages by 2018.
